The YogaFlow Teacher Training Program Overview:

This basic 200 hour course is completed in three levels over the course of 6 months. Included in the training program:

  • Learning the benefits, therapeutic benefits and contraindication of all 44 poses included in the manual and their variations
  • Developing your Personal Practice for Creative Teaching  
  • Working with various Pranayama Techniques (breath control)
  • Yoga Philosophy
  • Hatha Yoga Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology
  • The Bhagavad Gita and The Yoga Sutras
  • Meditation
  • The Energy Body including the Chakras, Nadis, Koshas, and Prana Vayus
  • Ayurveda (the science of life), a comprehensive introduction
  • An overview of various Styles including Classic Hatha Yoga - traditional yoga, Iyengar Style - working with alignment and props, Viniyoga Style - therapeutic breath centered practice, Ashtanga Vinyasa - this is where vinyasa  and power flows originated. By studying these various styles we learn their diversity and how to incorporate these techniques into an eclectic style. These various styles will help you to you create your own personal practice which will guide you into creative teaching. 
  • Adjustments and Alignment
  • Sequencing and creative teaching techniques
  • Restorative Yoga / Yin Yoga
  • Mantras, Chanting and Mudras

When working with the above criteria we will be covering; deepening your practice, designing your class, applying teaching skills, practice teaching each training weekend, modifications, teacher ethics, articulating to your class participants in both English and Sanskrit terminology, and intro to Yoga Therapy. Upon completion of this course the student will graduate with a deeper knowledge and a more comprehensive understanding of yoga not only as a physical exercise program but as a spiritual practice. As we learn from this mystical, practical philosophy, our personal journey deepens and allows us to incorporate these teachings into our daily life. East meets west, integrating body, mind and spirit. Honoring the integrity of this 5000 year old tradition we learn to incorporate its ancient teachings into modern living.

This course runs from January through June each year. Within the 6 months we meet 10 weekends including a mandatory two night retreat at Ananda Ashram in Monroe NY.

Each training weekend begins on Saturdays from 11am - 7:30pm and concludes on Sundays from 10am - 7:00 pm.

There are four Friday evenings as well from 6 – 10pm.

This program is designed for the Yoga Enthusiast who wants to deepen their practice and or teach yoga classes in various settings. YogaFlow receives requests for teaching opportunities from fitness centers, yoga studios, colleges and more stating they prefer to hire teachers who have completed this course. YogaFlow teachers are well prepared and knowledgeable in the practice of teaching a variety of levels and settings. The only requirement is that you have been practicing yoga for a minimum of two years and have a desire to take it to the next level, and that you are committed to participate in each training weekend.The program is designed around small groups with individual focus and attention in a relaxed, nurturing atmosphere.

The YogaFlow Body & Mind Teacher Training Program is a basic 200 hour Certification but offers the student opportunity to study the diversity of yoga. Upon completion the graduate will feel confident and qualified to teach special populations such as Restorative Yoga and Prenatal Yoga among various other populations. This program offers not only an eclectic vinyasa style of sequencing but therapeutic applications as well. Read graduate testimonials below.

The fee for this course is $2500. Payment plans are available for $2800. A $100 deposit is due by November 1, 2011. Please fill out application and mail with your deposit.

Level III - Yoga & Ayurveda by David Frawley

It is highly recommended to purchase all the required reading before Level I to assure all books are available for each level. Also it might be helpful to begin reading Erich Schiffmann and TKV Desikachar before training.

Weekend 1

Yoga for Healing Body, Mind & Spirit Yoga

The focus for this weekend will be yoga for healing.  Learn how to work with the Koshas, Prana Vayus and Yoga Sutras. Design private, group programs and your personal practice therapeutically to integrate body, mind & spirit.  This weekend will focus on working with client assessments forms and evaluating your students to gain insight in developing appropriate programs. Therapeutic breath centered asana practices will be the main teaching style for this weekend.

 

Weekend 2

Yoga & Ayurveda

Yoga & Ayurveda have always been used together for a complete integrative practice. Learn about the doshas, gunas and Samkhya Philosophy to better understand each individual constitution. We will be going over in detail designing classes for each dosha as well as assessing your client to design appropriate private practices for your students.

 

Weekend 3

Alignment, Props & Adjustments; Yoga for a Healthy Spine

In this workshop we will be going over the major asanas in detail to place the body in proper position to reduce injuries caused by asana practice. In preventing injuries our students will benefit greatly from their practice. Throughout the weekend we will be covering props as well as adjustments and their roll in assisting our students. We’ll also be going over the axial and appendicular spine which will explain why no two people look the same in an asana.

 

Weekend 4

Working with Warm-Ups & Sun Salutations

There are so many forms of sun salutations which are the best to use? From traditional to creative warm-ups we’ll be working with a wide variety of sun salutations from traditional to contemporary while learning creative warm-ups so that each student can experience a safe and harmonious opening to their asana practice.

 

Weekend 5 

Vinyasa Flows, Creative Sequencing

Vinyasa is the interconnection between asana and breath. From gentle to vigorous flows can be an important tool in developing safe, fun and creative classes. This weekend will be a fun exploration of Vinyasa flows, their history, and how to be creative in your practice and teaching.

 

Weekend 6

Working with the Chakras

The seven major chakras will not only be explored but you will learn how to assess your students by working with the chakras. Included will be mudras and mantras for each chakra. Learn how to develop fun and safe creative chakra flow classes.

 

Weekend 7

Restorative Yoga, Meditation & Yoga Nidra

In this peaceful weekend you will learn 18 restorative poses, how to design a restorative yoga class, the benefits and contraindications. Yoga Nidra is the deep yoga sleep. Without actually falling asleep we learn how to stay conscious while letting go of stored tension and releasing past samskaras. It is a great way to learn how to meditate by relaxing both the body and mind while staying in the present moment. You’ll learn how to design a yoga nidra session by working through the koshas, prana vayus, elements and chakras. Meditation techniques will also be included in this powerful yet relaxing weekend.

 

Weekend 8

Weekend Warrior: Yoga for Sports & Sport Injuries

Yoga for sports and sport injuries are increasing in numbers every year. From working with sport enthusiasts, athletes, and High School students we can develop programs to strengthen, stretch and increase better body awareness and focus. With the increase of recreational sports comes the increase of related sport injuries. Learn how yoga can help improve the function of shoulder, spine and knee injuries common to recreational sports enthusiasts once released by their Doctor and Physical Therapist. Included will be how to design programs for sports enthusiasts and athletes by increasing their flexibility, strength and mental focus for improved performance. The focus will be on programs that work with runners, tennis, golf, skiing, swimming and cycling.

 

Weekend 9

Yogini, Prenatal Yoga & Yoga for Women’s Health

This weekend will be geared for women’s health. First we will be learning in detail about the development stages from pre-pregnancy to prenatal practices. Also how an infertility yoga class can actually help women to conceive. We will be working on creating and teaching a safe and fun prenatal yoga class. In the second portion of the workshop will you’ll learn about women’s health issues from pre-menstrual through post menopause and how to design appropriate yoga classes or private sessions

 

Weekend 10

Yoga Therapy; Digestive Health, Auto Immune Disorders, Asthma, Anxiety & Depression

This weekend’s focus will be on yoga as a therapeutic practice and will touch on common disorders from digestive problems to anxiety & depression. Many of our students suffer from these common disorders. The focus will be in designing appropriate group programs as well as creating private therapeutic sessions. Learn how the koshas, prana vayus and chakras are valuable tools when designing appropriate classes.



ONE MANDATORY RETREAT FOR EXTRA FEE

  • Each weekend meets Saturday & Sunday 11-7 plus 4 Friday evenings 6 - 10pm
  • Each Student is responsible for taking one yoga class per week, sign off sheets will be provided
  • One Mandatory retreat at Ananda Ashram. Student is expected to participate in all programs including Ashram Programs.
  • Fees: $3000 payment plans available for $3300
